This project was carried out for Seymour Civil Engineering Contractors, on a Northumbrian Water project.
A 25.00m diameter shaft was underpinned to a depth of approx 12m in good firm clays and would provide over 4,000m3 / 4 million litres of foul water storage capacity.
Once excavation had reached formation level and all the rings had been built grouted and caulked a mass concrete plug was poured.
Once the concrete in the plug had cured the steel reinforcement was installed for the concrete base slab, with starter bars protruding for the 4 no. concrete support columns, as shown in the picture on the right, for the pcc cover slab.
